Alternative Dispute Resolution
ADR is a term used to describe 'alternative dispute resolution'. This is a broad term that covers the entire spectrum of legal procedures in reality, almost any method, with the exception of traditional arbitration or litigation. ADR was developed within the United States in the mid-1970s and in India it came in late 90’s as a reaction to the increasing discontent with traditional litigants, who were mostly an approach to settle disputes. As the volume of lawsuits increased, and the cost of litigation has gotten worse and uncertain results were the main driving force that led to the development alternative solutions. ADR specifically, and mediation in general, has been widely recognized and promoted across the world.
